When my last computer died I thankfully had all my documents backed up but I lost all the favourite websites I had saved in internet explorer in my favourites.
These took years to build up, are they stored in a location on your computer that can be backed up to an external hard drive?
Thanks

They can be exported to an HTM file from IE and is called bookmark.htm You should back those of as a matter of course. (IE/File/Import Export/Exprt .. to a file)
The file is basically an .htm version of Docs&Settings/UserName/Favourites. Save to a different drive or memory stick. Export your mail too while you are at it.
You can import this file or replace the folder contects if you still have access to the drive. Just copy the file to the Favourites folder.
The location does vary depending on what version of Windows you are using.

But basically it is in your "user" folder (where your pictures, documents etc are stored) and the folder is called Favorites.

In Windows 7 and Vista it will be user\yourname\favorites
