Lost connection

My sister has a Toshiba laptop running Windows7 (64 bit) and a wireless connection to a virgin media modem, When her laptop goes into sleep mode the connection is lost to the internet.(on restart) is there a setting somewhere that she can 'tick' to enable her to connect automatically. She does connect automatically on the initial start up, this loss of connection is only after sleeping.

First things first, make sure the latest drivers are installed for the wireless network card.
