I over heard a woman telling others that her hubby has "flu" but he insisted on going to work anyway although he felt awfull, what a load of rubbish, if you have really got flu there is no way you will even want to get out of bed let alone go to work, why do people talk so daft? and if he was that ill in any way at all why did he go out and spread it around to all his workmates?
I've never had the flu...but my sister has. She still had to get the kids to school. She dosed herself up with flu meds...took the kids to school, came round mine...and collapsed. She stayed at mine for 3 days because she couldn't look after her kids.
I did pretty much the same ummmm, except I had nobody nearby to crash with, so me and the kids spent most of the time curled up on the sofa. I only really moved to get food and drinks for the kids and wash up any pots etc. The shopping had to be done though so I took some ibuprofen and a flu strength lemsip and dragged myself to the shops leaving my eldest daughter in charge of the others. I am not saying that flu is a doddle, no way is it! But some of us have no choice but to carry on with some tasks, I was a single mum with zero support from friends or family back then so it was a case of do the shopping or my kids go hungry.
and flu is not the same for everyone flu viruses vary too... some swine flu is certainly being missed as it has a much milder presentation in some luckier people A bad case....no way you can get out of bed but mild to moderate with remedies you might function enough to manage the essentials...if you rested between little bursts of activity....likely to have a longer recovery period if you do this though
I've had 'real' flu and seriously wanted to die! I just could not move, my kids would have had to starve, honestly, there was nothing I could do for days, hated it.
I have been very quiet since I first mentioned flu, guess what, yes I have had it myself, must have talked it on, as one with severe lung disease it got me bad, so only just getting about now, and it was every bit as bad as most of you said, and i'd only seen it at second hand before, well now I certainly do know how bad it is.
I think there must be more than one type of flu, as otherwise I simply do not understand comments like claims you have the flu and yet are out of bed. In my experience if there is flu like that, then you could not tell it from a bad cold. "Real" flu means you are out of it most of the time, only becoming conscious a short while to maybe drag yourself to the bathroom and back.
Anyway I agree that those who claim they have to go to work when they are ill (not just a sniffle that is) are a menace. They spread the infection and make the overall situation worse.
