Retuning our Freeview

Help! our local TV station has just announced "don't forget to retune your Freeview box, the local switchover is on Wednesday 26th January - you know what to do".

No I don't - what do I do - can anyone tell me, in a very non-techy way, please?

Well personally I would scroll down to tasks, select settings then TV, then TV signal and then select scan for more TV channels.

But as you probably don't use windows media centre for your TV how I do it is probably totally different to how you'd have to do it.

So it may help a little if you mentioned what you are re-tuning!

Sorry folks, broken the No 1 rule about "what sort of equipment" -- the label on the front (and on the controller) says SAGEM. It runs through the TV not the computer.

Guys, thank you all for your contributions - I have found the instruction manual, I will try that.
What happens if I don't retune before Wednesday? Does it just mean I lose the Freeview channels after that, until it's retuned?
(I am so inexperienced when it comes to stuff like this, and OH is away until Thursday.)

There is usually loads of info when an area changes. You may have to retune a couple of times.
Check in the local library as there will be pamphlets.

"Information on retuning TV when analogue signal is switched off." I just put this into Google and the info covers all regions

You should Re-tune your Freeview Box or Integrated TV about once a Month, New Channels are added and others go off air.

Here is a good way to do it for Freeview. It will stop you getting old channels mixed with new (which you don't want)

Unplug antenna lead.
In Menu go to installation .. new .. whatever it is called.
Do a full setup scan for channels (It will find none)
Switch off box. Switch on box.
Then replug antenna and carry out the same procedure from installation menu.
It should just load all the new stuff for you.

Thanks all, most helpful - yes, we are asked to add the new channels every so often, so we do that as we go along.

I have just found something in our local paper - apparently we have two transmitters on opposite sides of the town and it's only one of them which is switching on Wednesday (the other's in 2012) so I need to check that out first.

All help, as ever, is very much appreciated - they've said not to do anything until after 6 am on Weds anyway. I may come back to you ;-)

Guys, thanks for all your suggestions with this one - it did turn out to be dead easy, the installation option just took us through it. I'll know now, for any next time!
