Thank you dotty, that was most interesting. Both my grandparents were buried in a churchyard, which has now been given over to parking for a building alongside the church. I believe there was a notice in the local newspaper about this, which none of the family has followed up. Now that link has gone. It is a great idea to have a notebook and camera, I wish we could have recorded it.

When we moved back oop north, dotty, my Dad (despite only being 5 at the time) took me to where he believed his grandparents were buried. There was no headstone to confirm whether he was correct, or not.
Fast forwards 5 years and a curious co-incidence took us back to the churchyard, where we found a recently erected wooden cross on the grave...........right where he remembered !!

gran the graveyeard will likely have been recorded and you should ask at your local reference libray whether the MIs were done, I know any such planning was always btought to the attentionm of local or family history societies

My ex husband took us to Southend cemetary in 1991 saying he thought his baby brother was buried there (died 1953 aged 9 months) he went straight to the grave and also found his granddad's grave (buried 1962) with no effort, I was amazed, as he was only 3 when the baby died and he only ever visited the grave with his Mum for a few tears afterwards

Many thanks Dotty and well done. I love `grave walking` and reading them all when looking for our own line and always take photos and mark where they are in the graveyard on a plan

Cheers OH, it is one of the sources that is freely accessible, open all hours and can be copied immediately with no lasting damage to the source! As long as you do not interfer with any Lichen of course, as it is protected!
