I have just had a long phone call from someone peporting to represent techresolve, i was told to look in the PREFETCH file, when I told him what was in it he told me that I was infected with a virus, he then told me to go into EVENT VIEWER, guess what, I had so many virus's that it's a wonder that my PC hadn't crashed, Of course he then tried to sell me his product, at this point I put the phone down.
Has anyone else had this phone call?
This brings up the old question, should I clean out the PREFETCH file and the EVENT VIEWER file, there seems to be conflickting views on these questions.

You had an unsolicited call from somebody that asked you to check a couple of things on your computer and then told you you were infected with a virus and tried to sell you something.
well, I would doubt very much that you have any problems at all!
have you tried running a full scan with your normal antivirus software?

I run all my anti's all the time, I was just suprised that he knew that my PC was running slow and that I was having trouble opening some web sites, I put this down to all the wet weather and maybe a cable somewhere had been contaminated with water, He said that my PC had sent them error reports, in my EVENT VIEWER there were a lot of error reports due I think to the fact I was having trouble opening web sites, He said that under no circumstances must I open anything in these two files and I must close them right away.
Let me say right away that after the first 5mins I didn't believe anything that he was saying partly because he was baffeling me with science.
Another-view..I didn't think that I had a virus.
Should I clean out these two files? if only to make space on my hard disc?

there are a lot of online virus checkers that will allow you to scan your pc from uninfected programs search for "online virus scan" for them . try to use the ones WITHOUT a download . this will confirm the existance of any virus you may / maynot have on your pc . Though most of these sites dont fix the issue unless you then buy their software.
an alternative to this problem of slow or complete inability to open some web pages can be due to a number of issue's updates for instance or web security setting. and in worst case senerio virus/adware , however adware usualy works in the way of downloading or changing setting so adverts can be displayed on your pc , some of the worst types actuyaly download other adware without your knowedge.
as for security if you know where to look there are plenty of FREE programs out there which will aide your security i will offer up some names you can check , these are only ones i have had experiance with, however which you choose if any would be your choice entirely and im making no actual recommendation. comodo do an excellent firewall , avast anti virus , Ad-aware protection for advert software , and so on all these can be got for the home user absolutely free and there are of course many other providers though i would search the web for comments people have made regarding the software as there are bound to ones that come pre-infected , such being the world and deviousness of these programmers who write the inicial programs to cause us all issue's.
So with that said even if you have issue's there is no reason to actauly spend money and all sales calls should be treated with the contempt they deserve. " sorry sales calls are a pet hate of mine "
hope this helps .

This morning I turn on my PC, which was fine yesterday, and it booted up fine and started to load the desktop and then became unresponsive to all actions, the mouse moves but can't click on items and ctrl+alt+del does nothing I can only power down the machine and boot in safe mode.
With in 10 minutes of this happening I had a phone call claiming to be from techresolve saying my PC had the Malaysian virus.
When I first told him I could only boot on safe mode the line went on hold for a few seconds, he started to tell me to look at the event viewer with out telling me what I was looking for and after about 5 minutes he hang up.
Thing is he had my details and phone number which is on TPS etc.
From what I am reading on the web I guess it was just coincidence he rang when there is an actual fault with my PC.

The last responder from Techresolve is lying.
His company is based in Calcutta, West Bengal India and is DEFINITELY behing the scam calls.
I know this because I managed to get the cold caller to give me the name of the company and their telephone number on the pretext that I was going to call them back. The number matches that on their website and the website is registered in Calcutta, India...NOT Australia.
Nice try...you crook.

Hello, I have just had the same phone call from 'techresolve' obviously still well at it.... I had an Indian female claiming to be an Elizabeth Watson from Techresolve telling me my computer was being corrupted and asking me to do various things on it. I refused and explained to her that I wasn't stupid and no one does anything else for anyone for free....!!!
I also got a call from techresolve too and after doing a bit of research, I noticed that this cold calling scam is more widespread than I first thought. I won't bore anyone with the details of the call but my rant is on my blog at http://redleema.wordp...aid-do-not-be-fooled/
I also noticed that the .co.uk has nothing to do with the perpetrating scumbag .net company!

Just had a call from an Indian Guy calling himself Nathan, from Tech Resolve wanting to interrogate my computer for virus's. When I started to ask for confirmation about the company, he got quite abrupt, he told me he was not in India, but calling from Oxfordshire, I asked what Town...he refused to tell me. I said you don't know. I told him he was a Fxxxxxg liar ( sorry but he was shouting at me). Really really rude.
After he hung up, I called them....same guy answered...but was now calling himself Austin. Wouldn't admit it...spoke with another Guy Adam. They are in India.
They gave me a PO Box address (but I don't think its legit), he said they are a british registered company but refused to give the company registration number.
Warning......DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY.

I just had a call, when challenged they are really really rude.
I feel sorry for the Tech Resolve in Luton. These people could seriously damage the integrity of his company.
They say they are using a PO Box in Oxforshire.
http://techresolve.net/contactus.php. This is there website. Will be making a complaint to trading standards. There has to be a way to shut them down.
