I'm such an idiot. Did dinner to have while watching a film last night and very stupidly put a hot plate on the foot stall, which is the same fabric as the sofa. There is now a lovely plate size ring in the middle of the fabric. Any ideas if and how I can remove it? We've only had them a few months!

I suspect you are stuffed! contact the place you bought it from and ask how much it'll cost to re-cover the foot stool. your home insurance may cover it.
Yep, if it's a burn then a recovering is going to be your only option, hopefully it won't cost too much for just a foot stall.
Go to a fabric remnant shop and buy a piece which tones with the sofa, then recover the footstool to hide the stain.
It must have been an incredibly hot plate - how were you going to manage it on your lap?!
^ PS, yes worth looking at your contents insurance, if you have accidental damage cover included.
Use a tray next time.

It was just a plate that had naan breads and things on it to pick at so wouldn't have been on a lap. The really stupid thing is that I put the other plates on a tea towel on the coffee table, despite the fact those plates were cold. Dur!!

I know.

The food wasn't even very nice.
i think recovering it is your only option x
I'd check the cost of recovering the stool before looking at house insurance.

The excess and increased premiums following a claim may make it more economical to simply pay for the recovering yourself.
I've just paid £99.00 to have a long footstool reupholstered.
