Browser Question
Hi, please help...
I have Firefox set as my default browser but yet when I logon to the internet it always open with Explorer. For Firefox to work I have to open it. Is this how it suppose to work? I always thought the default browser is the one the internet would open in.
Thanks for looking at my question and your replies.

If the Internet browser doesn't automatically load when the computer is switched on then you have the option of opening up any of the available browsers like Buenchico says. If you want the browser to automatically load when you switch on then it should appear in your Start Up programs. Make sure that Firefox is in your Startup and not Internet Explorer.
Aha!
Internet Explorer and Dial Up Networking are two separate programs on your computer but Internet Explorer can be configured (as it obviously is on your computer) to launch Dial Up Networking automatically, so that you get connected to the internet whenever you open IE.
To get Firefox to do the same thing, follow these instructions:

Very interesting this thread.
I have Firefox set as my default browser on the desktop comp. on which I am at present typing. ( BT Broadband in use)) and it always opens with Firefox. However I do have a Laptop on which I have retained a 'dial-up' connection via Virgin.net and, as I have radio linked it to my main comp. it also opens automatically with Firefox and I can surf the net without any 'dial-up' connection. However, whilst all e/mails addressed to me via Virgin come through to the laptop without the 'dial-up' connection being involved, I do have reply, by a switching to 'dial-up' , in order to send a return message with my Virgin e/mail address.
I hope what I have said is understandable.

You need to switch on SMTP authentication on the account settings for your Virgin mail account, ron.
I'll assume outlook express here, but it's the same general idea for most mail programs.

In the last picture in the link above you can set it to use the same settings as the incoming server.
