my partner and I came up with the idea around a month ago to go away on holiday for new years.we have been setting our heart on it as we think it would be a great way to start the year but haven't wanted to book anything because I had to apply for a passport for my little boy.
my little un's passport has come through but now the bad weather is badly affecting the airports so we are wondering whether we should can the whole idea. we would be flying from Manchester on Jan 1st. what do people reckon...to book or not to book?....

We are booked to fly from Leeds and Bradford on 31st December, atm we have delayed flights but nothing like the Gatwick/Heathrow fiasco. We haven't had that much snow in Leeds/Bradford area this time around, but it's quite icy. If I had a choice now I would have waited another 6 weeks. But it's a gamble, you can never tell at this time of year.
Manchester is operating normally atm. We are not due any more snow in this area - Northwich - so you may be ok.
You will be celebrating the New Year at a different time than it is here. I can't get my head round that, I have to stay in my own place to make sure the New Year starts at the proper time. lol
