I'm trying to install my old Lexmark printer on my new PC, have downloaded drivers etc. and followed the install instructions and set it up for wifi printing......printed a report saying no problems and giving signal strengths etc, but now when I try and print it cannot find the printer, unless it's USB connected....help please!

OK, from reading the manual there should be a wireless setup utility under start > all programs > lexmark XXXXX > wireless setup that will do all this for you...

Have you tried that before I go any further? (you'll need to connect the printer by USB)

Click start > printers and faxes.

Once you've got all your printers listed (probably just a couple) right click on the lexmark printer and select properties, then click on the ports tab and what does it say for the ticked port?

It says USB 001 Virtual printer
OK, on the config page the printer printed out it should hopefully say what the printer host name is?

If it does then click on the add port button, select Standard TCP/IP printer port and then click the new port button and the port wizard will start, click next on the first page and then on the second page type in the host name of the printer exactly as it is shown on the printout you have. click next and then finish I think.

Then make sure the new port you have just created is the one selected under the ports tab, click OK to close the driver properties and give it another go.

It's great thank you................now I've just got to figure out where to buy and what version to buy of MS Office...............
If you only want the base programs (word, excel and powerpoint) and want the latest version than home and office 2010 will be fine.

If you are not worried about having the latest version then office 2003 is still available from some places at a reasonable price.

I think my big problem is I want Outlook as well....
The copy in the link I posted is professional so it will come with outlook. (although version 2003 it's still perfectly usable and in fact a lot prefer it to later versions)
Question Author
Thank you very much indeed Chuck.....will have a firkle.

I don't think that works with Windows 7 or am I wrong?
Yeah, office 2003 will work fine with windows 7 (office 2000 does too, I've not tried earlier versions)

Cheers Chuck................I've just ordered it from that seller on Amazon :-)
