Do you think that in the future, instead of charging and punishing people who commit crimes, we will diagnose and treat them instead?

I'm wondering if anyone can commit first degree murder WITHOUT being psychopathic

There would be hundreds of Mental Health Hospitals instead of prisons. And would it work?

I hope we won't be wasting money on such a scheme.
What a bizarre idea.

I think it's gradually evolving that way, rather than a deliberate scheme?
No.
There will, hopefully, be advancements in the field of mental health treatment.
Of course they can.
No.
So the criminals get treated and the victims get to live with their misfortune?
wont work for the large percentage of criminals who have no mental health issues - they simply decide to live like scrotes.
I think most crimes are ultimately committed for money, and that's not psychopathy, just greed. But those who are genuinely ill should be treated.
I'd be worried if the ability to live as a person wishes is removed in anyway.

Sure, people shouldn't live as criminals and we all wish they didn't exist, but having the ability to make that choice taken away would be a scary prospect.
Some countries do not tolerate criminals......not live ones anyway.

Yes, I'm not suggesting it's a good idea, just that I can see things going that way. There are so many illnesses and conditions being discovered/acknowledged all the time, that I wonder where it will stop.
A lot of people in prison have mental health problems and they shouldn't be there. But there are lots of people who are bad rather than mad.
If you are talking about the UK, sort out the alcohol/drug problem and you will probably eradicate 70%+ of the crimes. So yes, people can be treated...before a crime is even committed.
TTG is correct. Most of the questions in Law start with "I was down the pub when...."
