Still won't start!

I posted the other day about my Rover 214 not starting, I thought it was the immobiliser which I now think it isn't, I tried a different battery in it today and it made a different sound but it still won't turnover, the sound it made was like a squeaking, it sounded as though it didn't have enough push to turnover the engine so gives up, I tried putting it in first gear with handbrake off and rocking it to free up any stiff parts (it has been sat for a while). this hasn't worked, anyone got any ideas what it could be? before it was sat for a long time, it was used daily but struggled with cold starts. could it be that my starter motor has bitten the dust? :-(

And while he's at it if he could confirm if his has the metal wheels or the ones made from wood!
he could be doing that right now maybe - but Romans and Greeks where before goodyear - but they are round. One thing about a petrol engine is it is only four strokes though - do not get me in Wankels - nice motor
As long as we ignore 2 stroke reciprocating engines.

i'm back, been at work, not sure what you mean by the battery thing, please explain and i'll answer you as best as possible. :-)
but is this helping Benny test his starter motor - soloniod- just wanted him to put negative on battery to outer casing on starter
Not at all, but it's been fun :)

It think it's safe to say that negative to the starter case and positive to the connector the flaming great, finger width, red cable connects to is the way to go :)
Thank god i dont own a rover.
Black to neg off battery and casing of starter - connect red to battery then touch the other end on power terminal of solenoid - should shoot starter gear out and then turn - if its working ok - just whatch out for the touque and don't let it run for to long
tst or try to explain how to test a starter motor remotely - what happenned Benny?

haven't tried it yet, will be trying today, also will be trying to turn the engine over by hand with spark plugs out (unsuccessful with spark plugs in). I'm beginning to think that either, the water in the water jacket has frozen and cracked the casing causing water to seep through to one of the cylinders....or....my head gasket gone and water has seeped through that way. the car has done 73k miles and head gaskets generally go on 214 at 75k miles so it is a high possibility. :-( then again, i'd prefer the head gasket to be gone than one of the cylinders to be cracked!
Benny - Are you telling us that you didn't have any anti-freeze in ! ?

I honestly don't know. :-( I haven't put any in but don't know if there was any in there when I bought the car in June. just bought a 10mm spark plug socket to get SP's out but it doesn't fit in the hole! don't know what to do now!
