Midsomers Murders. How did it end?

I missed the finish. It looked like he might have been building up to a heart attack. Was that a red herring, did he ride off into the sunset?

In the end they were having his birthday party, with family and collegues and there was a call for inspector Barnaby and he said you have the wrong inspector Barnaby and his cousin John took the call out. so we may still have Midsomers Murders but not with John Nettles.
No, salla, I should have made that a bit plainer. Inspector Barnaby's cousin John. Don't know who is taking the part. Will be interesting to see what happens and whether it will be just as popular. Can't be many people left in Midsomer to murder. Must be getting quite difficult to find a variation on a theme.
