Yesterday my OH had an app't at the local Southend University Hospital, 3.30 at the eye clinic. After a considerable wait he was on his way out at 5.30pm,
Just outside the entrance he tripped & fell, smashing his face on the kerb, he put his hands out to save himself, being as it was a gravel pathway he has got sore cut and bruised & swollen hands & cut knees. He passed out for around 30 secs.
Someone rushed out with a wheelchair & took him to A&E. This was 5.45pm He remembers someone saying "He's come round now" He was then parked there, someone took his name , No one cleaned him up, he had dirt & blood running all down his face & on his hands, He was in shock and shaking uncontrolably, he is a diabetic (the nurse was told) & an old man of 77 years.
Because I was worried I phoned the hospital at 6.30pm to find out if he was there, Yes in A&E I was told.No one phoned me. I phoned my daughter (I don't drive) she said when her H gets in she'll go to the hosp. Its now 7.30pm he's still sitting there. Daughter arrives at hosp & is told he's to be seen next. 8.30pm OH is angry & in pain, hungry and needs his medication, Nurse says it will be 10 mins. 9o/c pm OH discharges himself from A&E
Thats 3 & 3/4 hours. Disgusting
Is your local hospital A&E this bad? I'm naming and Shaming

A previous visit saddened me (as does seeing how often they have police and security on guard due to all the problems) when both my legs had swollen up and gone very painful. The Dr said that she was going to do a test for a blood clot even though there was next to no chance of it actually being one as both my legs were swollen but because of what I did (solicitor).
I questioned why - pointed out I don't even do that type of law - she said I would know people who do - I pointed out I despite the compensation culture - they insisted on doing it anyway. Such a waste of time and cubicle space when there was no need - sad they think they have to watch their backs so much.
The local prison is Catagory A but it's also a young offenders prison so that's why they are all youngsters. Jimmy Savile is very good with the patients and he certainly makes everyone feel as comfortable as possible. I owned a chauffeur company a few years ago and met him a few times as a customer. He also used to run the same 6-mile route I walk every day or night and he would run past and say "Hi pal".
Perhaps you see me too Milly if you live around here. Many total strangers say to me "You're the bloke who always walks from Aylesbury through Stoke Mandeville in just his shirt sleeves - even when it's raining or snowing!". I also get plenty of people sound their horns but I haven't a clue who they are my wife and I don't know too many people.
Stoke Mandeville is now A&E for most of the county now I think Milly. Thankfully I haven't been there for a while I must add.
thats terrible
contact PALS nhs to complain, there is an open office my hospital that you can just go into, so check if there is one in southend.
also write and complain to the cheif executive of the hospital, and dont be fobbed off with excuses
if you dont complain loudy, they carry on and get away with it.
mr c spent several hours in thiis A&E at the back end of last year, all the staff, nurseing , doctors , technicians and even the lady who brought him a sarnie and cuppa were keen to help and make him comfortable except one doctor who said, after getting his name wrong, that she had been very busy seeing patients, ( what - in a hospital ? ) .
should you wish to complain to PALS you have to write in, no phone calls or printed form.
go for it.
What the.. - He had come from a brightly lit enviroment straight out into a dark car park, he got his parking ticket & turned round to walk to the car, there were kerbs there with the edges painted with white paint but the paint in places had worn off so didn't see the kerb. Lighting wasn't good there anyway..
