49A Imide or Imine? Dictionary.com relates both to ammonia  but I'm not up to understanding the difference between the two. Any chemists out there?

Imine

A compound derived from ammonia and containing the bivalent NH group combined with a bivalent nonacid group.

 

Imide

A compound derived from ammonia and containing the bivalent NH group combined with a bivalent acid group or two monovalent acid groups.

 

Still going with Imide but guess we need a chemist!

According to thefreedictionary.com, imide is a variant of amide.  If you look amide up in the medical dictionary it mentions an acyl radical which amine, the variant of imine does not.  Ergo, I went for imide - if any of this makes sense!

Would go for imide because the clue says two hydrogens replaced by acyl groups. An imide structure is typically

      O        O

R - C - N - C - R

           R

with the C to O as C=O and N to R as N-R. My old organic chemistry book gives the acyl group as the R-C=O
