Hayfever injection

Anyone had this? I have severe hayfever and was wondering if i should get this soon...if at all?? I cant go on the way im going each year it is ruining my life x

My friend's ex had the injection after trying de-sensitising treatment. It worked for her.
How much worse could it be than what you go through at the moment?

(I speak as a former sufferer who got lucky and dried up for no apparent reason) Good luck!

tinkerbell............correct me if I am wrong, but you are not alluding to desensitizing injections but to a one off injection at the beginning of the hay fever season.

Excellent idea......although some GP´s will object.

It is a long acting steroid of which there are many,,,,the best in my opinion is Depot Medrone......on injection at the beginning of the hay fever season...15mgms I think.

Hi, I have had the injection (kenalog) and it really has helped BUT there are downsides. It can have an effect on your immune system, I was seriously warned about this, but I went ahead anyway thinking a couple of colds is much better than a summer of hell. I have suffered repeated colds, urinary tract infections, stomach bugs, everytime the kids have come home from school with something, I have got it. I CANNOT guarantee that this is down to the injection, but having previously barely suffered from anything, then I would say it was down to having the jab. I have also gained weight - this was another side effect that the doctor mentioned MAY happen but I also have had the contraceptive implant fitted and it is a side effect of that too, or it may be that I have just eaten more (although, if anything, my diet is much healthier noiw than it has ever been). I Must stress that this is just my experience and opinion, but I would not have the jab again.

posy....I do understand where you are coming from....Kenalog is another long acting steroid.

It is my opinion that the side effects of steroids have been overplayed and I have not seen any relevant long term properly conducted medical trials which have persuaded me to change my mind.

Like all therapeutic drugs one has to balance the said side effects with the benefits.

Check out the pros and cons, after trying every antihistimine on the market I finally got Kenalog from a locum dr one year. When I went back to my regular GP the next year he refused to give it to me, saying it can lead to all kinds of problems in your joints, hip replacements etc.

He referred me to an immunology clinic and I am currently on a 3 year course of Grazax, which I have to say has been fantastic for me

I take fexofenadine tabs..ripital eye drops and an nose spray..becanase?...it helps but not completely..have to stay indoors on really bad days..was thinking of asking gp about the jab this year !

Hiya den! Oh yeah ill b using it again but its ugly hahaha so ill b hoping an injection works! Speaking of injections i had two yesterday, one in each arm for going abroad! OUCH im bruising...sleeping on my side is an issue! Ooowee! Xx

My son will be wearing his when the season starts - although he has just qualified as a Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer - so its not going to look that good.......but its better than sneezing over his clients ha ha ha

Tink - you can wash the armband - I washed my sons and it came up like new.
