The thermostat in the immersion tank (our only source of hot water) keeps tripping out. We've had a new tank fitted (it used to do it in the old one too) and I've changed the thermostat previously so I don't understand what it could be. I've tried turning the temp down so it's now set to about 55 degrees. Any ideas?
I should say it was doing it when he first fitted the new tank so I turned the temp down as he advised. It had been fine for a couple of months but has now done it 3 times in as many days.
It could be a Faulty Thermostat milly ! Turn it down to 50 and if the water is still piping hot and it does not trip again it's problem solved. If not Thermostat may need replacing.
you still getting hot water when you reset the thermostat which means you got a faulty thermostat or dodgy wiring between thermostat and heater. Get an electrian to come and check it out
FYI this is what consumer unit looks like - just an example
do you have oil/gas heating? That happens here if the immersion is on and set at a lower temp than the heating; the thermostat thinks it's overheating and trips out for safety.
Thanks for all the answers. No, we don't have gas/oil, just electric. I will try and get new an electrician to fit a new thermostat - will be the 3rd or 4th new one in just over a year (although the first replacement in the new tank).
