E-mail phone-settings trouble shoot

my son has a sony eriksson vivaz and has set up an e-mail account on his phone to access his e-mails, he can receive but not send his incoming server is pop3.talktalk.net and outgoing is smtp.talktalk.net. there are certain other settings like port and default connections, which he hasn't touched, he is with 02. can you advise please

Are you sure that you've got that the right way round?

The outgoing server is, as you state, smtp.taltalk.net, so I'd expect him to be able to send mail. But the incoming server should be mail.talktalk.net, so (with the server setting you've mentioned) I'm surprised that he can receive mail.

its true my talktalk account runs perfectly with the pop3 incoming server set up they gave me some time ago as does his. its just the out going mail he has a problem with. I on the other hand do not

I've never set up email on a mobile phone. (My phone simply makes and receives calls, and can also be used for texting - which I refuse to do anyway!). But, with Outlook Express, simply deleting an account and then creating it again can often fix problems. So it might be worth a try. (Also check that 'smtp' has been entered and not 'smpt'. That simple spelling error has been the cause of several problems reported here on AB!)
