build a camera and a separate receiver.
As yo know he invented a system that didnt really work very well and so nothing that Baird invented is now used in a modern tee-vee.
There were a few teams working dong this. A Russian invented a usable 17 line system ? Nipkow, and a Japanese transmitted the sign 'da' in 1925 and so on.
There were some really good programmes transmitted in 1985 on this - fifty years since a high def system started, I think.
Baird didn't invent television, he was the first to demonstrate a working system using mechanical parts, based on principles already being worked on by others. In fact the main part of his televisor was the scanning ring invented by Nipkow. It was a very poor system and even though he later developed a better one that was actually used in test broadcasts by the BBC, modern television owes very little to Baird.
