something else I've thought of, staying at our gran's in the country whilst mam was ill going to the lavvie ( plank with hole over lavvie bin)
night soil men used to come round at night to empty them I would put off going to the loo until the last minute (I swear I can still smell that bin).Ron.

The outside loo with newspaper cut into squares, no loo roll then, bread and dripping, cocoa and sugar in paper for a dip, liquorice root and spanish put in a bottle of water and shaken up.

I agree Hopkirk, even as a 10/11 year old I found it cheesy and irritating, I much preferred Blue Peter, Magpie and one or two of those dubbed programmes from the continent (eg. White Horses, Belle and Sebastien etc).

Great memories for me:
Looking for "suspicious objects" on the army ranges near where I lived (bullets, mortar shells etc).
Victory V lozenges - they had chloroform and ether in the ingredients back then!
Series 1 airfix kits which were 18 1/2 "new pence".
Jon Pertwee, Opportunity Knocks, Lost In Space ..etc

In regards to sandies post about ciggies, we used to club together buy a brand called domino, four in a paper packet with four matches for sixpence (2½p) and then have to smoke them all as nobody dared take them home.If you went out with a tanner in your pocket the sweet shop was yours for the taking, black jacks and fruit salads at four a penny, sherbet dips, gob stoppers, aniseed balls, pineapple chunks and a whole load of sweets you never see now-a-days, and if you do get them they don't taste the same after the S & H people have sorted out the ingredients
