As we have always been to weddings with a reception and evening do as well. I suppose we will have to tell people to have lunch before they came otherwise they will be hungry if they have to wait all afternoon.
The idea seems to be to invite as many people as possible to the evening do. There is therefore no consideration given to people who have a long way to travel. My son is only having six people on my side and 7 on the other side at the actual ceremony. Then a massive break and the evening do. I was and am upset about him not inviting close family ie aunts and uncles to the ceremony so that he can invite all his friends to the evening. Nothing we can do though. except seeth.
Hi wolf ,yes up until now all the weddings we have been to have had church service, photos, going onto reception, dinner, speechs ,cut the cake and then onto an evening reception with people arrivng about 8 oclock. buffet at 9 or 10 ish. But the prices of weddings today have gone stupid I think so corners have to be cut. My daughter has been married before,, so that is why we arent arranging this one. But we are putting money towards it by paying for certain things.
My wedding was at 3pm! It was a traditional wedding with the church service at 3pm. By the time the service was over with, there were photos taken before arriving at the reception for pre-drinks, followed by the meal and speeches. The timing was fine, no day guests had to go home or walk around aimlessly to kill time before the evening disco at 7pm. We chose to have it a 3pm so that there wasn't a gap before the evening guests arrived and everything flowed from one bit to the other. Also, I'm not a morning person so having it at 3pm meant I had time to wake up properly and get ready in my own time without dashing like a mad woman!
bimbo, well if I was you and your husband I wouldnt give them any thing towards the wedding if you cannot invite who you want on your side. Which is your family. I suppose if they all live a long way away from you or if non of you every see each other then not inviting them is not really that wrong. With our daughters wedding I havent got any family and my husband only has a mum, sister ,partner and son. and then one brother. Were as my son in law to be has a big family but is only inviting aunts and uncles who they stay in touch with, plus his mum, dad ect.
We were worried about the cost of our wedding and really disliked the A-list/B-list feel of having day and evening guests, so we got married at 5pm with everyone there, cocktails and photos, then straight into dinner followed by dancing. A massive gap is, in my opinion, very inconsiderate to the guests.
