Usual - musical chairs, musical statues, simon says, pin the tail on the donkey, pass the parcel, is 5 too young for chinese whispers?

If it's halloween party, then duck apple and bob apple spring to mind.

Cut some pictures from a magazine, then cut them in two in varying shapes and place one half in places around the room. When the girls arrive give them the other half of the picture and ask them to look for the first half. They get a sweet or treat for matching it. It's a great ice breaker and keeps them occupied until everyone arrives. hope it goes well.

We always play pass the parcel but put simple forfeits or tasks in each layer along with some little sweets or a toy.

dancing competions are always a hit with the children.musicals bumps,statues etc. have fun.

playing musical statues can be very hard to choose a loser so why dont you pick four playing cards one of each suit. ask four people to go to seperate corners of the room each holding a card when the music stops the children have to choose a corner to run to. the next card determines which suit is out. quick and fair the child has then chosen its own destiny. in or out and you wont feel like a baddie.
