At a guess my sister will know him - she's 65 and went to Burnholme School as did my eldest brother - 63 and my BIL used to live on Fifth Avenue just off Tang Hall Lane!!
I was in the Woodcraft Folk. My Dad stopped me going, he said the man and wife that ran it were communists. I had no idea what a communist was and he wouldn't tell me.
I was in the Tufty Club, and like mccfluff was a guide for a short while. It was annual camp that put me off. It just seemed like an endless round of chores. The only bit I liked was sitting round the fire singing before bed.
I've just remembered that back home at the weekly meetings there was daft stuff such as 'fingernail inspections'!
'Tufty' was one of the nicknames I had when I was teaching ;-)
Clubs? Hmmm . . (in the widest sense) . . .
The (Ipswich) Gaumont Children's Cinema Club - (pre-teen childhood)
The East Anglian Cactus Society - (yeah, I had a really exciting time in my teens!)
Northgate Grammar School Chess Club
Northgate Grammar School Electronics Club
The Radio Society of Great Britain (teens and well beyond)
Sheffield City College of Education Photographic Society
The Mathematical Association
The Association of Teachers of Mathermatics
The College of Preceptors
The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications
Yewlands Badminton Club
. . . and probably loads more which my tired old brain can't remember!
