HGV License

1. How would one acquire an HGV License?

2. How long would the course be and is it true normally consist of a single weeks training? if that's the case that would be very conveniant.

3. And where would be the best place to take the course around the London area?

Not sure about London. I live in Beds, and my mate had to go to Peterborough to do his test, so they are not anywhere near as common as car test centres

....and they are very expensive something like �2,000 for combined C and C+E courses.

99 you can complete an LGV II in a week and in fact have to do a two before you can try for a class I. I don't know if this helps but just North of London near Junction 6 of M1 in a place called 'Park Street' nr St Albans there is a company that takes you on and arranges the test as well - sorry their name escapes me. Full package tuition truck and test for a fee.

Companies have become far more dubious about taking on 'new' LGV drivers. When I passed my test 20 odd years ago, the accepted route to gain some experience was to become an agency driver. Loads of different sorts of vehicles, but not much pay. Nowadays, big fleets (supermarkets etc) don't just use agency drivers as a stop gap to cover illness, holidays etc, but can more or less staff their drivers through agencies. As such, it is a lot harder to get a drive without experience. You are best to train nowadays with your future employer. I would suggest looking in the local paper for any firms looking for drivers and ask them if they will train you up. Most supermarkets train their own drivers, so if you have depot near you, try them.

i dont know if this is much help but there is a company called big wheelers in reading that i see all the time in loads of different lorrys buses e.t.c so i would of thought they would cover it all, depends on what part of london you live in wheather thats any help
