and a link will take you to an excellent child-friendly Greek mythology website. Perhaps the kids could try that first, then graduate on to books later. It's a starting-point at least.

When I was a kid, I loved the Nathaniel Hawthorn Tanglewood Tales books, but I bet they're out of print now.
I also liked the books by Roger Lancelyn Green (Tale of Troy etc) but I bet they're out of print as well.
You might be able to find them in second-hand shops: I read them when I was about 7 and 8 and absolutely loved them - still have a good knowledge of Greek mythology today thanks to those books (and we're talking 40 years ago).
I have a book I picked up from a charity shop which would be perfect, but I am sure it is out of print, you would have to try one of those websites where they find you out of print books: Stories of Ancient Greece by Roger Lancelyn Green Illustrated by Doreen Roberts; published by Paul Hamlyn Ltd, Drury House, Russel Street, London for Golden Pleasure Books Ltd, 1967. No trace of an ISBN no. - perhaps they did not use them in 1967?
