Little info if possible... We have HD on our television but have noticed that some programmes are shown in small screen format, not all programmes, but some.Has anybody else noticed this,or is it our television that needs adjusting.Have been onto Sky but they have not really been that good with the info, not to mention the time involed my phone bill will be high this time I bet.Oh, and when the programme we want to watch is a small screen we turn it onto normal digital and the screen is large as it should be,any help or info would be appreciated, thank you.
We have the same problem. I understand that this is caused when certain non HD programmes are transmitted in HD and this cause the pictures to be compressed when in 1080p

Thanks haggis for your reply, now we understand.I don't think that they should put these programmes on HD,when all is said and done we are paying well for the HD programmes don't you think?
I think your right garner but these shows are being re-broadcast in HD quality however when they were originally shot onto tape it was probably just for a standard 4:3 screen so there is nothing to actually show on the left/right of the picture.
I had same problem for first time last week with Americas Next Top Model - if I'm honest I cant really see difference between HD and normal apart from £10 per month on my Sky bill - I never phone them it is the most frustrating waste of life they are hopeless
