Has anybody got any reccomendations for a hotel in the centre of rome. Am arriving late on a Friday so would like to be close to the centre (station preferably). Want to spend around 100 a night for a double room.

So many to choose from, so just wondered if anyone had any tips!

Cheers

HOTEL LUCE -- near Termini station.  Reasonable prices, clean room, friendly service, and delicious restaurant right on the corner of the block.

Have fun!  :)

No personal recommendations for individual hotels but I just love the way www.needahotel.com works. (Honest, accurate information, independent reports, loads of photos). Having said that, I find that I prefer to access their database via www.ryanair.com (click on 'Cheap Hotels' down the left-hand-side). You don't have to be a Ryanair customer (but if you live near to one of the airports they serve you might well want to be - incredibly cheap!) and the pull-down menus are more user-friendly than the main site.

Sorry Sunnycrest, just got back from Rome so this may be too late for you.  We found a lovely hotel - Hotel Suisse - that was a very short cab-ride from the station & was perfectly placed for all the major attractions (the Spanish steps were right at the end of our street, both the Vatican & the Colloseum within easy walking distance and the Trevi fountain plus loads of restaurants & gelataria just round the corner).

Our room was really lovely, the bed was very comfortable & much more importantly, everything was spotlessly clean.  The staff were really nice & you get breakfast personally brought to your room every morning!  Due to one delay after another we didn't actually arrive until nearly 1am but a quick cab ride (cost about 8 euros) took us right to the door & the porter was waiting up for us with a friendly smile.  It cost 150 euros per night which we felt was good value.
