Do you 'blog' and if so why?
13 Answers
I don't personally but wondered if any of you do. Keeping a diary is one thing but surely that is for yourself, why then do people feel the need to 'blog' to the rest of the inter web about random (sometimes) rubbish and what makes them think others want to read it? Is this just narcissism on their part?

That's not a blog doc, it's a question, a genuine one at that :-p
I was just on another site I visit and most of the peeps there have hyperlinks to their particular blogspot (I think it's called). Why? Who cares? Who told them their life was so interesting it needed published world wide?
>>And twitter is self-indulgent claptrap<< Totally agree Salla

I think Doc has a point...
The best bloggers are the ones who actually DO something, then write about it. I know the image in your head is someone talking (whining) about their own problems (that's what Facebook is for right?) but these people will often be ignored apart from their friendship groups. If you actually DO something and then write, it can be interesting.
For example a friend of mine writes a blog about cycling in (and out) of London. He sets himself a task (for example, how far out of London can he get on a train for £30 and what route can he do when he is there) - this is clearly going to be excellent for someone who likes cycling, wants to get out of London for the afternoon, but would like a helping hand. My friend provides maps, reviews (and, of course, pub recommendations). That's a good blog.
If you've ever been on tumblr.com you might find more of what missnemesis is talking abut though...

A blog is, in essence a "Authored Post" (at the top) usually followed by a series of questions (below it). This does look quite "bloggy" in the end MN.

I personally don't think my life is interesting enough (to others, I'm quite happy with it) to blog about... However, I do have a friend who thinks I should write down my day to day take on my little world as she thinks people would find it funny, kind of like a grumpy old woman thing I think is what she envisions. I'm not confident or egotistical enough to do that!
The comments about narcissism and arrogance are well-made, in my opinion.
I can understand, for example, that a band on tour might want to post a write-up after each gig saying maybe if the venue was good, how enthusiastic (or otherwise!) the crowd was, what songs they played etc, because they will probably have a fan-base which will be genuinely interested in reading that.
But I can't even begin to fathom why anyone could in their wildest fantasy possibly believe that others would be even slightly interested in the minutiae of their lives...
