validating identity (wi fi status)

Folowing a freezing issue I have just done a recovery of my HP laptop, its all gone ok but it wont conect to my wifi, it finds the router but hangs with a message stating "validating identity" how can I get it to connect please ?

What version of windows and what router?

If it's XP and you have WPA security you'll need to make sure XP has service pack 2 at least installed. or it might be that your router has a button on it you need to press to enable wireless connections? but it's a but hard to guess with no information about the equipment.
