I should've posted this on body and soul but I think more abers go on cb, so here goes.
I've had 4 deaths (3 extremely close) in the new year. I've been upset/crying/stressed etc..... but now I'm worried about my 'late' period. It's seven weeks since I last bled, I put it down to whats happened but still nothing. I feel the back ache, stomach ache etc, think i'm going to start - but still waiting.
I know i'm not pregnant & my mother had the menopause early (at the age I am now) but how can I tell if it is the menopause if the symptoms of having a bleed (not bled at all) seem to be there?
sorry about the nature of the question - but can anyone help????
TIA

You say you are sure you're not pregnant, so maybe stress could be the cause, if not to do with the menopause.
Why dont you make an appt and go and see/discuss with your GP and see what he/she says?
I hope you feel better soon and my best wishes to you at this time. x

hi anna......... so sorry you have had such a horrible time lately........... our menstrual cycle is very much related to our emotions. if you are sure you are not pregnant, you may have early onset menopause, and a visit to gp, would be a good idea, but maybe the more concearned you are the more stress you are under.... nb, i am not an expert. but i hope you feel better soon.. anne
Ask your doctor to put you in touch with a bereavement counsellor. In the meantime
have you got someone close to confide in that will listen and sympathise.
As for your periods, stress can play havoc with our bodies, you may or may not
be going through the menopause. Just take it one day at a time and things will get
better. Rest whenever you get the chance and take care of yourself.
Kind regards,Cupi04. xx.

Thank you all for your replies - I didn't realise all I would need is a blood test to see if its the menopause, I may do that if still nothing.
I'm getting through this with the rest of the family but also having to be strong for others - it's hard, but we're getting there.
Anywhere we go for long, I'm having to take all the paraphernalia with me - which is quite a bit since I have them bad.
Thanks again for your well wishes - you guys are the best!!!

as you've only missed one, almost two, periods, it's unlikely a blood test will indicate much about the menopause, the results would not be very reliable because of hormonal fluctuations. maybe a good idea to visit your gp but to be honest, if it were me (and i did go through something similar a number of years ago when my mum died) i'd just wait and see for another few weeks.
you know you're not pregnant, if it is the start of menopause what would you want the doctor to do about it, and if it is all down to the trauma you've had lately then your periods will start again at some point.
these are just my thoughts and opinions, obviously you must do what ever you feel is right.

I am so sorry...:(
Almost too much in my opinion..
I was through the menopause (early) then i had a major shock.I bled to such an extent that the lower half of my pelvis and tummy was just a black mess along with patches all over -quite literally there was no where for the blood to go so it amaligimated. My blood wasnt co-algulating.I was seen as an emergency and the Haemotolgist and Gynaecologist both concurred after extensive tests that it was due to stress and shock .
I dont know if this will help you but I hope it may allay any fears until you see an expert.
best wishes..x

As others have said, check with your GP.
In the meantime, however, you might want to work through the self-help guide, on the NHS website:
