Super wood glue?

I am currently renovating a stool and need to replace one of the legs. Making the leg is not a problem but what I would like to know is whether there is now any superior wood glues that I could use to stick it back together, the stronger the better!

Yes ..
Use polyester foaming wood adhesive. Sets in 15-20 mins .. Can take off clamps after that time.
Expands a little with a foam action while setting. Also waterprooof.
Do not get on fingers .. will be black for a week!

Not just a wood glue but if you want a really strong bond try Araldite, it will stick just about anything and believe me once it sets it's bonded for good

Evostick and Araldite are just not the correct things to use on timber/furniture, are they?!

If the joint is properly tight fitting freshly sanded wood on wood, there's nothing wrong with good old PVA.
Araldite (or any other brand of epoxy resin) is also good but you'll go through quite a lot and it's fairly expensive.
Sorry Lydeard - contact adhesive is totally unsuitable.

I agree with answer. Mate of mine restores antiques for a living, when he has to re-glue an old chair or table he uses PVA adhesive, after removing all traces of the old glue 1st.

... and pushes the joint apart on some circumstances ... use a good PVA (Evo-Stik), it'll be stronger than the surrounding wood once it's dry.

What a load of tripe.
All good joinery shops use it now. It's well proven and a lot better than standard PVA's. It will edge join planks of elm or oak .. and they will not come apart .. that I can assure you. It's also seawater-proof.
PVA is now only good to use if you absolutely do not want staining or in delicate situations where it's impossible to sand/scrape off the dried foam.
If you all old-skool tried it, you'd probably change your mind.

Instruments .. What did they used to use then?
Resin/cow glues. I would only use resin for those now.
PVA if it isn't a Stradivarius original : )

I have no complaints with Gorilla Glue as long as you follow the instructions and wet both surfaces first. Two pieces become one, never to part. Amen.

I have recently been using exterior grade PVA to build a mandolin case, once dry is is stronger than the wood and will be fine for a stool as I presume the joints are all socket / peg type.
