I don't get this.

I love Cognac ... (having one now, as it happens).

But when I drink Whisky, it does that Ghaaaaaahh!!! thing in my throat.

But it's just the same strength.

Why is Cognac warming, and Whisky burning ?

Perhaps you react to the different contents - grape and grain ;-(
To me cognac always have a sweeter, mellow taste. I'd rather have a cognac than a whiskey anytime.
What kind of whisky do you drink JJ? a good malt is smooth as mothers milk
jj - thank you for the reminder. I shall have my first Courvoisier now, your very good health :o)
I have tried to explain cognac as similar to the old readybrek advert, but with the warm glow on the INside. 'Tis like swallowing a thousand glow worms on the coldest night, or like pouring oil on troubled waters, or like your mother's hand on your fevered brow. Cheers.

paddy ...

I don't drink whisky, really.

I keep a selection of single malts and bourbons in for when friends come round ... their husbands seem to enjoy it.
Try whiskey instead, much nicer.
You are obviously drinking Sugar....a really good malt doesn't burn. what are you on? Also cut it with a little water. I enjoy good scotch and I love an XO Cognac, mainly Hennessy as a lot of the others are 'perfumed' for the Oriental taste-buds. Love XO Armagnac and good Calvados - there's a wonderful shop just down from the west door of Rouen Cathedral for those of you who are over there and like "un ballon de Calva"

Near Rouen Cathedral?

I'll pop round in the morning ... !!

I have never been a great fan of whisky, probably not tries the good ones. Presently working through bottle of Martel.
If you're a cognac drinker can you recommend some for me please? Don't like Courvoisier and similar pub-grade stuff but the rest is too pricy to take a random guess and end up with an undrunk £20 bottle. Thanks :)
