does anyone remember the name of the LP that had this song on - sung by jon pertwee i think. There was also my grandfathers clock, as well as many other children's songs.

Can't remember Children's Favourites, although I was around at the time. Perhaps we didn't put the wireless on on a Saturday morning. What I do remember, though, is its successor, Junior Choice, hosted by Ed Stewart, Radio 2 Sat 8.00 - 10.00. It was the most popular radio programme when I was in the RAF. Just imagine us 19/20 somethings enthusiastically singing along to Nellie the Elephant and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Of course, we occasionally supplied our own lyrics.

The singer on that was Vernon Dalhart, not Jon Pertwee.
