I don't think it is at all dangerous.
have you had your booking in appointment with your midwife yet?
As far as i know it does not effect the baby whilst youre pregnant if youve had it a while, as the baby will have any antibodies from you. The risk to baby even if you have a flare up when in labour is minimal.
As long as your midwife and hospital are aware they will give you all the advice and help you may need.
The baby's protected in a little bubble of sterile water.....
It all depends:

If you show signs of infection in the time befor 30 weeks, and it is treated, then a vaginal delivery is safe.

However, if you show signs of infection in the last trimester of you pregnancy, you will be offered a Caesarian Section to safeguard infecting the baby.
i think fiona meant, will she pass it on to the baby while giving birth naturally ummmmm, not while she is carrying the baby in the 'little bubble of sterile water'.
Have a look at this fiona. It'll tell you all that you want to know.

thank you so much for your replies everybody, i was just really worried not just about the birth and infecting my baby but also if it could harm my baby while its still in the womb?

im going to have a chat with the midwife today i think, she what she says and see if i need to take anything
Hi Fiona,

As much as I hate to admit it, I too have genital herpes! I'm in my 15Th week of pregnancy.

I hate the thought of having this, I'm such a clean & careful uptogether person but I could have caught it years ago.

I had my first outbreak just before I found out I was pregnant (which was agony) I had the outbreak due to a low immune system, since then I've had 3 recurrences.

The internet says I can't have a natural birth but my mid-wife says different so don't believe everything you read. Please let me know how you get on today.... x

thanks for that, im relieved i know of someone else with it who's pregnant :0)

im gutted i have it too, but again God knows when i got it, i havent been with that many people!

im going to phone the midwife after work, i'll let u know what she says. thanks so much, you've put my mind at ease! x
Did you speak with your mid-wife yesterday? I'm seeing my mid-wife Friday & again going to bring it up because I've had a recent recurrence but apparently that is a good thing as the baby builds up antibodies against the infection.

Like you, I can count on one hand how many people I've slept with before my hubby to be. However, I did have a boyfriend who had cold sores but apparently that can't give you genital herpes (God it sounds gross) & I've never had a cold sore in my life.. All weird & not wonderful!

Don't worry your not alone!! x

i've never had a cold sore in my life either! it's weird how it works isnt it..!

i spoke to the midwife yesterday and she said i should be ok, and if i have an active outbreak when i go into labour i'll need a c-section to prevent it being passed to baby..

let me know what your midwife says as well

x
