mixing paint

i want to lighten a paint i have bought but its matt, so can i use vinyl silk to do the job, have mixed paint before but only if they have both been vinyl silk, so if matt and silk can be mixed ok has anyone done it and what effect doed it give, thanx

will be ok-both are water based
effect-surface will be in between matt and vinyl

had convinced myself that it could be done so thanx for confirming it x
You will have to mix them really well for it to work, otherwise the finish will not look right. Also you usually need a lot of the lighter colour to lighten the darker one. The finish will most probably be closer to a matt finish rather than a silk one.
Forgot to put it's best to make sure the paints are the same type ie, both vinyl, both kitchen and bathroom if you see what I mean and both from the same company ie, Dulux as sometimes you may get problems when mixing 2 different brands of paint. Usually you will be ok but it can go wrong due to the different make up of the paints.
