...opening for business on a Sunday when today
...me and my OH went to buy carpet for our stairs and landing. Its a small family carpet shop we've very happily used before. There was only one member of staff and she said she wasn't too knowledgable as she only worked every other Sunday. If it was a gift shop or a corner convenience shop it wouldn't matter who manned the till on Sunday but a customer for carpet needs advice and help with measurements, quantities, qualities, advice on wearable areas, types of carpet, underlay, etc..etc..
btw..we wouldn't normally shop for this sort of item on a Sunday but on this occasion we had no choice.

Good on you for even thinking of using a small family shop for a carpet, I always have good intentions about things like that but end up buying from big chains as they usually work out cheaper.
she probably only gets rthe minimum wage jan, gone are the days of double time on Sundays and I don't think a lot of people have dedication in their jobs anymore an so don't bother to learn which comes back to the customer

Sorry.. should have mentioned the sales assistant is the sister- in- law of the owner, still maybe she was paid minimum but doubtful.
then she should be working to get buisness jan, not acting as if she didn't have a clue

Quite agree Bobbisox..The owners are a husband and wife team and they are both excellent to buy from, their carpet fitters are thoroughly professional and highly convivial. So why put a complete novice in for Sunday which may do more harm than good to the business...I just question their judgement
She was probably there in case she could perhaps offer to have someone more knowledgable contact customers at a mutually convenient time. For every 5 she may not have been able to help she may have got one potential customer.
I think thats shows foresight on the behalf of the owners at least they are attempting to compete.
Did she act like she didnt have a clue or at the end of the day was she pleasant to you or dismissive?

Dris ...as we entererd she was on her mobile and stayed there for at least fifteen minutes. She was not unpleasant or rude or in any way offensive just totally ignorant of her subject ie. carpets and what the company had to offer. For her to be there it must have cost more in heating and lighting than could ever have been gleaned in sales for the day.
Does she actually work there? Maybe she was just doing a favour to family members as there was no one else available.

I would just say in our opinion our track record with this shop will mean we will go with them again
ooo I;d love a job like that, I;ve been run ragged today, spent 7 hours on my feet and only had a 20 minute sit down to eat a butty whilst doing work on the store back office system
