Near Teenage daughter and boys
3 Answers
My daughter who is 12 is distraught that one of her close friends (13) has commited suicide after being dumped by her boyfriend.
How do we drill home to her that boys are so unimportant at this stage in her life?
There seems to be a stigma at her school (which doesn't allow relationships) to being "single" at 12 which i find sad and somewhat scary.

any lessons to be learned are for later. bizarre though, there's no such stigma at my kids' school and they're both much older. I think I'd see if there were "better" schools around but not now, as she'll need to be with her other friends. the school will be full of counsellors at this time, as there are set procedures for such tragedies.
surely they don't all have boyfriends at that age?

I dont think you have to drum it into her , how unimportant boys are at the age of 12. The fact her friend ended her own life over a boy at such a young age i think will be a lesson to her . Just make sure her free time is full of stimulation and activities, does she belong to any clubs or groups outside of school ?.
