Wow. Absolutely brilliant. I tried to rotate the rings mentally, but got out the scissors after a few minutes. Then half my letters were upside down, so I printed out a new grid and re-filled it. An incredible feat of construction, I thought. Difficult but lots of fun.

Thanks to cruciverbali, S-matrix and Mysterons. Although I do now have the dedicatee and I think I have the misprints I cannot see the thematic word or the quotation. I think I will have to accept defeat and wait for the solution to be published when, no doubt, I will kick myself!
I have finished this wonderful crossword ... actually not doing too bad this year, only missed the tectonics one, although somewhat careless sometimes and finding out missed one letter .. so never sure. Anyway long story short .. not easy for a frog ... I have lost my grid with all the rings rotated and quotation highlighted ... etc .. I have an excel representation .. in a band (which by the way I recommend as a solution to solve ring listeners) ... is there anyway I can get a blank scanned copy of this puzzle so I can submit it .. if only to honour the dedicatee ... and the setter(s) ... Thanks
Doh ... forgot to give my mail address if someone was kind enough to send me one ... [email protected] ... by the way, the Listener is not too easy for a frog ... apart from the Veme république one ... lol
Guess the Friday solvers of 4127 are already well underway (I only use a hard copy picked up on Saturday afernoon shopping). My only final comment is that I almost always find I learn something new from the theme every week, by having to reseach the subject. I do not think that the more parochial theme this week is any different from underground stations from a city I have never visited, or literary references from a book I have never read.

The true hallmark of any Listener is the cleverness in the construction and the multiple layering of the solution, in which case this is certainly on of the top 2 this year,
Alan - highlight the letters in the grid which gave rise to the misprints - line these up and you have the thematic word.
Gorf1926,
I'll send you one.
Have sent it to the right address now - sorry!
Finished. Brilliant. For those still struggling with 2/31 radial, consider that one might be a misprint clue and one might have a misleading word at the end of the clue.
Many thanks to those who have helped. I finished it last night having found the reason why my answer to 1a was correct and had a drink to celebrate - very satisfying.
Well done !! Nice timing to now take a look at this month's Azed Competition Puzzle :
