How long can you have an out-dated tax disc on your car before it would be deemed as illegally parked on a road?

joko you are entitled to your opinion on any subject but please bear in mind that it is only an opinion, whatever you say you cannot get away from the absolute fact that it is illegal to park or drive a vehicle on the road or highway. Whatever the reason for allowing a vehicle to become untaxed it is not valid in law,say for instance you become ill for months or you cannot afford to buy fuel then it is up to you or a friend or relative to arrange to park the vehicle off the road on to a house front or other private ground until it can be re-taxed. I live in the West Midlands & you would be surprised (or would you ?) to see the amount of cars & vans being driven about with out of date tax discs & not only that but still being driven whilst using a mobile phone, at the risk of upsetting someone I would advocate that anyone caught for either reasons they do not deserve to own the vehicle & it should be impounded & destroyed. Ron.
ron, it has only been untaxed for a few days - it has had valid tax for the last 2 months... you talk as though its been untaxed for months...
i was suggesting waiting a wee while before reporting it as the disc may still appear... as it could be a lot of hassle to cause for someone just because you dont like the car being there...the issue here seemed to be more because tigger didnt like it there and wanted it moved, rather than a worry about the law...

Well of course I want it moved. I don't normally have a problem parking outside my house but since its been there it has not been moved. And anyway, it was my neighbour who noticed it sitting there a few weeks ago and asked me if I'd changed my car when I hadn't. If anything he would probably report it before I do. If he hasn't already done so.
i agree tigger, i would want it moved too, it annoys me too not being able to park outside my house at times too, but i know theres nothing i can do if the cars are legally parked.
i think you are doing the right and fair thing giving it another 4-5 days before reporting as its then clear its not just a delayed disc and could well have been abandoned
