Boiler repairs

Do you think it works out cheaper to take a chance that nothing will happen to your boiler and not pay £13 a month to British Gas? Our`s has been very reliable for 3 years without any breakdown, or should I just have it serviced, it`s a Baxi.

Spares aren't that dear for Baxi .. and there is a good support network through Interpart .. so I would not take an agreement out.
If not been touched for 3 years, should be at least cleaned out and pilot/main injector and pressure setup again.

I would agree with the last post the boiler is not new and I am a great believer in leaving boilers alone get them seviced every 3/5 years,the money you save will buy a new boiler after a few years

pay 13 pounds into a saving account every month. You get the interest and if nothing goes wrong you get the money

Every gas appliance should be serviced annually.
As far as the £13 per month goes, thats up to you, but doesnt that £13 include your annual service.
You dont say what Baxi you have, if it is not a combi boiler then yes the parts are relatively cheap, but if it is a combi then parts can be expensive.

You are already £468 up (by my calculation), which will go a long way towards any repairs and the eventual replacement of the boiler.

Any such insurance scheme must make the company offering the product a profit - of course there will be those who are 'unluky' and get their monies worth out of such policies - but they will be very much in the minority.

There are any number of tales of British Gas turning up to fix a boiler, shaking their heads and saying, ''Sorry, can't get the bits for that any more. But we'll sell you a new one!'' So much for your £13 a month.
