Maw Broon's Cookbook Cake

Just made one of the sponge recipes from Maw Broon's Cookbook. Can safely say I wont be making it again :-s
I don't know whether I did something wrong or if it's just the recipe. It was a no butter cake. Anybody have any experience making these... if so how did they turn out??

I made the peppermint creams they were good x

I think i've come to the conclusion that i'm just not a very good cook lol.. are they easy to make tink? x

Yeah majorly, was an egg icing sugar and peppermint drops....so easy..rolled into wee balls and dipped in choco! Plus i think(!) you could easily change the flavour ie raspberry etcc! X

I don't like making cakes without butter, they never turn out that well!.........usually dry!.....

I might give those a go then tink..maybe restore some faith in my cooking skills lol.. well i can hardly call it cooking though! x

I've made cakes and muffins using vegetable oil and they came out very well.

Well this was just eggs, flour, sugar and some vanilla essence Society.. My gran said she had made a no butter cake and it was nice and fluffy.. this one wasn't lol x

Slinky , my gran makes the most amaaaazing clootie dumpling, she uses the big rags to make it, i could never do it! X
