Each pair of missing words have the same initial letter and form a new word or phrase when joined together.

1 can only think of Paper Tiger/ corn Lily = Tiger Lily
or
Paper Tiger/corn moth = Tiger Moth
2 engagement ring firm promise = engagement promise

Unfortunately, the missing words have to start with the same letter.

Missing word comes after paper and before corn so can't be blackball

aaaargh - will have another look.

think it just might be - paperstick / seedcorn = stickseed [a kind of borage] - obviously not happy with paperstick because i've never heard of it myself but it gets some hits on google. anyway - best of luck.
