My C drive in my computer is rapldly running out of space. I have used 232GB and there is only 28 GB remaining. Will compressing the old files help this? Or should I just try and delete or remove a load of stuff onto an external hard drive?

Compressing won't gain you much space. Delete / move to another drive.
As I've just answered your flash drive question and you mentioned AVI files in that I'll assume that's what's filling your drive.

In which case, as Naz said, compressing them won't really help, move them off too an external drive.

Also if this is stuff that's important to you then you need a proper backup of them too, having them in one place only is never a good idea so you might want to get two external drives.
Your worried about space already .. With 28Gb left?
