I have been told tope on here....but not sure
tope
Its in Chambers as a grove of mangoes
have checked dictionary.com....no mention for plantation in definitions of tope...
Chambers gives, Tope: a grove of usually(Mangoes) from the Tamil Toppu
thanks...will have to get Chambers dictionary..
The Sri Lankan Tamil to English dictionary gives "Toppu - Mango Grove, (topu)
and further down "tope"
It's used by Kipling, for example in this page http://kipling.thefreelibrary.com/Kim/1-3#tope
