Birds nesting in eaves

We have birds nesting in the eaves on our gable end. How do we get rid of it and how do we prevent it happening again. I am constantly removing bird muck from the path and the noise is terrible.

You could use an ultrasonic birdscarer in your attic. This would stop the birds from nesting.

We used a squirrel scarer from this company. They were very good - the order was delivered very quickly and it works very well.

But please wait until the chicks have left the nest before doing anything.

Funny how we're all different isn't it? I'd feel privileged to have birds nesting so close to me and would be delighted to see the progress from nest building to egg sitting to nestling feeding to (hopefully) seeing the little ones flying away.

Spudqueen.... you obiviously don't work shifts then and i don't suppose you would mind bird muck all down the side of your gable end and all over your path. It's no fun trying to get to sleep after a very busy nightshift listening to birds scractching around in the eaves.

May be relevant, or not. If it's swallows nesting in the angle between wall and eaves then a length of 2"x2" timber fitted into the angle is supposed to prevent this.  This idea was given to me by an old farmer I once worked for. He used it with great success, he said, on his farmhouse and it encouraged the birds to nest elsewhere on the outbuildings.

I vaguely remember a law that says you have to wait until the nest is empty i.e when all fledglings have left the nest for good, before you can remove the nest. If you did it before that time the RSPCA would be down on you like a ton of bricks.

I'm with Spudqueen on this one. I think it's great to have wild animals living so close. I'd rather have animals in the neighbourhood than noisy people with strimmers, power mowers and revving engines any day.

As you're a night shift worker, have you thought of earplugs? ;)
