Ok. I don't know the artist or the name, and to cap it all it has no lyrics so all I can do is describe it thus:

  • Very mellow electric guitar solo all the way through
  • Has some gentle bongos (I think) in the background which come into their own later on in the tune.
  • Starts off slow and gentle, gets a little faster
  • For some reason I thought it was on the soundtrack of Goodfellas or Casino but it isn't.
  • Sounds like it was made in the 80's, possibly late 70's.
  • Was on a free CD that came with a newspaper (can't remember which one).

If you can get this, you are a genius.

I think I can take an educated guess at this one fifilulubell !   Being a guitarist myself what you discribe sounds like it might be Carlos Santana with the band Santana and the actual track is called Samba Pa Ti  (from the "Abraxas" album) sometime in the early seventies. If i'm right; Congratulations on your choice of music!   Good Luck !
Thought at first it might have been 'Albatross' by the original Fleetwood Mac (my all-time favourite instrumental) but that was late 60's. I agree with dyli795 on 'Samba Pa Ti' (my second all-time favourite instrumental). Think it's the bongos that give it away?

Well I am very impressed! It IS Samba Pa Ti - thank you SO much I have been trying to find it for the last 2 hours, it is a beautiful tune. Do you guys happen to know if it has been on a film soundtrack? For some reason I thought it had featured on a Scorsese film.

I don't know what soundtrack the song is on but you can get Santana's samba pa ti album with the song on from Amazon at the link below. hope this helps.

www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-6860093-0678823

The link i gave you doesn't work properly if you go to amazon and then put in a search for samba pa ti, it should come up with the album.

thanks for the link philandlil although I already downloaded it from http://www.allofmp3.com/
This song featured in the film 'The Fan' which starred Robert De Niro which may account for your Goodfellas/Casino confusion. However it does not appear on the CD soundtrack for said film.
