Elderly family & access to savings

elderly in-laws have 3-4 savings accounts but due to their age are virtually unable to get to the building society, whats the procedure to help them access there savings ? not internet as they are just savings accounts.(Nationwide you need a full flex account)

They can appoint a trusted friend to have power of attorney. See website of "Office of the Public Guardian"
My Mum added me to her accounts so I can get money out for her etc etc
If it is a simple problem of not being able to get to the Building Society a Third Party Mandate to enable someone they trust to withjdraw funds for them is all that is needed.
This is all very well if the person appointed is trust worthy. My late mother gave access to her savings account when she lived in Yorkshire and I lived in London. When she died there was about £8 in her account and not the £30,000 that should have been there. Nothing could be done then to the thief as Mother had given access. I am in no way suggesting that this will happen to your in-laws. I am just saying what happened to me.
there are some charites etc that have people that will pick people up and drive them places to help them get about...try the local church or help the aged type places = they may be able to advise how they could get this sort of assistance
