Hi folks my mum is moving into sheltered housing next week, she only got the offer on Friday. We have everything in place except for the phone it takes tesco homephone 21 days to connect her, there is already a line in. Is it just me that thinks that a long time to wait, bt can do it in a few hours. I have explained she is 79 and although there is a warden she is not too happy at not having a phone for 2 weeks. Did think of moving to bt but that would take just as long.

moving to BT should just be a switch over fairycake, they do it all behind the scenes for you, I would imagine it may take longer if your Mum wished to keep her own number, they would have to have to get this from Tesco which would take a bit longer

Virgin Media quoted my son 9-12 weeks for a business phone line when there is already a working phone in the new premises- it's getting entirely ridiculous.

I am in a similar situation - I moved my Mum into a Care Home last month and BT are taking four weeks to connect an existing line.

I also thought of moving but seeing your post, the word "Cartel" springs to mind.

Anyway, what about lending her a mobile for the 2 weeks

9 to 12 weeks for a business that is so wrong. We've tried her with a mobile and she won't even switch it on, yes bt can do it in a few hours if you are already with them, changing to them would take longer as they need payment details etc. We did say she would be willing to take the number already used at the new flat, but it will still take as long. I remember when we move though it was 16 years ago, they got a weeks notice and it was done for us moving in that day.
