On a different point having read the Sun's editorial i find it to be hypocritical as shortly after he left showbusiness and started his antique shop, the Sun accused him of trying to rip customers off. At the time it was a big thing and though i can't remember the actual outcome but the newspaper went after him.
He deserved better
I totally agree - an absolute legend. And yes - 4 candles/fork 'andles - definitely one of the all time funniest moments on TV. Makes some of the recent stuff look lame, even though the recent stuff is actually very good!
His shop is/was near where I live. We used to go ocassionally but I found it so hard to go in. I'd panic that he'd be in, and that I'd want to ask him about fork 'andles! I know it was Ronnie Corbett that was the shopkeeper in the sketch, but just the thought of it makes me smile even now.
I look forward to the tribute evens so that we can celebrate such a great man's life.
The posthumous knighthood had better be more than speculation too.
