Electricity supply Maintenance
I live in Scotland and the electricity board (through a contractor) has said that the power cabling into the building and then into the flats needs to be updated. The company state this will take two days. I can be in for the first day but not the second. I telephoned the company and they state that I will simply be left without power on the second day. Can anyone advise if this is legal? I looked into the Electricity act 1989 but can't find the relevant section.

On the second day I cannot be at the house for them to undertake the proposed work. I can on the first day and of course I don't mind being without electricity for that day. On the second day they want to leave me without electricity if I can't be there so when I come back in the evening I will still be without electricity until they come back to hook me up again. I was wondering, as electricity supply is an essential service, can they legally leave me without electricity for a period longer than 24hours?
you could ask what compensation they will pay for lack of supply.
i think what youre trying to say is that you wont be at the property to oversee the work is completed on that second day. Can you not arrange for anyone else to be there when the supply is reinstated?
if not then try and get them back for 8am on the thrid day to reconnect it and you wont have to spend many hours without power then
